Abstract

1285419 Feeding and delivering heets H SPIESS 19 April 1971 [5 March 1970] 20651/71 Heading B8R In apparatus for feeding sheets in underlapping formation, a suction means, e.g. cups e or rollers, moved back and forth parallel to the direction of sheet advance in operation, lift and retard the trailing edge of each successive sheet fed from a conveyer means, e.g. belts C 1 , c 2 , so that the leading edge of the next sheet is moved below the raised edge. Sheets may be cut from a web at b and fed by relatively fast moving belts C 1 , C 2 until their leading edges reach an adjustably positioned roller/and an associated, relatively slowly moving belt g, which retard each sheet, pneumatically or mechanically controlled overhead suction cups or rollers simultaneously raising the trailing edge and keeping the sheet taut. An underlapping stream is thus formed and is transported by belts i to form a stack against an abutment k from which top sheets are separated by suction cups l, in a direction at right angles to the original sheet feed to rollers m on a feed table, and thence to a machine. Rails (r), Fig. 4 (not shown), underneath the belts i may be raised to bend and stiffen the sheets. The belts i may be mounted on a frame o movable to below the belt c 2 to allow sheets to be fed to the machine from a conventional pile table (w), Fig. 5 (not shown). Alternate ones of pairs of suction cups e may act on each sheet.
