Abstract

820,562. Feeding sheets. HEYWOOD, B. C. Feb. 22, 1956 [Feb. 23, 1955], No. 5468/55. Class 100(1) Units such as sheets, envelopes, magazines &c. 9 are spread out in overlapping relationship on four inclined endless belts 1 so that the upper surface of each unit is substantially horizontal, the belts passing around rollers 2, 3, and the roller 2 being driven by chain and sprocket drive under the control of a micro-switch 19. A roller 10 on an adjustable arm 11 is arranged above the belts to brush against and settle the units. Two combined air blowers and stops 13, and a supporting plate 15, assist separation and support the first few units, respectively. A finger 18 is arranged to rest on the upper surface of the leading unit 9 to act as a stripper finger to prevent double feed, and to initiate feed of the belts by closing the switch 19 if the leading unit is not in contact with the finger. The units are separated from the pile by suckers 20 and fed between rollers 21, 22 on to conveyer belts 24 for conveyance to a printing &c. machine. The roller 22 is pivotably mounted and closes a switch 25 to stop the apparatus if two superposed units 9 are fed between the rollers 21, 22. The apparatus can be used with the sheet-feeding and printing &c. mechanism described in Specification 742,646.
