Class 123(ii) A steam boiler comprises two or more sections 4, 5, 6, 7, Fig. 1, each consisting of parallel tubes 11, 14, 17, 20 extending between an inlet header 10, 13, 16, 19 and an outlet header 12, 15, 18 and the usual steam-and-water drum respectively, the said sections being arranged in series in a single circuit between a circulating pump 3 and the drum 1 and nozzles or metering devices 21 being provided in or near the inlet of each tube in that section, e.g. section 4, in which the water reaches saturation temperature and evaporation commences. A series circuit as above may be connected in parallel with other such circuits, and one or more of the several sections may be sub-divided into parallelconnected parts. The boiler shown in Fig. 6 comprises an economizer circuit in two sections 74, 75 between a feed pump 72 and a steam-and-water drum 52, and two parallel circuits between a circulating pump 54 and said drum 52, namely (1) pump outlet pipes 56, opposed inlet headers 57 with nozzles or metering devices 21, parallel tubes 59 lining the two side walls of the boiler combustion chamber 51, outlet headers 60, pipes 61, header 62, and front wall tubes 63 extending to the drum 52, and (2), pump outlet pipe 64, header 65 with nozzles &c. 21, convection-heated parallel tubes 67, header 68, pipes 69, header 70, and tubes 71 connected to the drum 52 and forming, in succession, the rear wall of the combustion chamber 51, a screen for the superheater 79, 80, and the roof of said chamber.
