Abstract

1,269,189. Forced circulation steam generators. SULZER BROS. Ltd. 14 Dec., 1970 [12 Dec., 1969], No. 59344/70. Heading F4A. A forced flow steam generator of the type having at least two evaporator tube systems traversed by parallel flows of working medium and each comprising a plurality of tube lengths arranged in parallel in respect of the flow of working medium and which cover a boiler wall over at least part of their length is operated with sliding pressure control. When close to critical pressure the output from each evaporator is split: a portion from each being supplied for recirculation to a point upstream of the evaporators and a portion passed to a common superheater means. At or above the critical pressure it is arranged that: a difference of at least 30 Kcal./kg. of working medium is produced between the enthalpy of the working medium leaving each evaporator; and that the evaporator producing medium of the higher enthalpy provides the major portion of superheater input, while that producing medium of lower enthalpy provides the major portion of the medium to be re-circulated. In one embodiment, both evaporators I and II are heated equally but one has its input restricted by valve 39 and will therefore produce working medium of higher enthalpy than the other. The evaporators feed steam/ water separators 21, 22; the water being recirculated at 15 and the steam being passed to superheater 28. Because of the enthalpy difference in the outputs of the evaporators, evaporator II will produce the most steam while evaporator I will produce the most water. In another embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), both evaporators are again heated equally but the difference in enthalpy is obtained by shielding one set of evaporator tubes from the boiler wall with reheat tubes. The separators may have their water compartments connected, giving a single water level, and there may be provision to condense saturated steam by spraying it with feed water between the discharge of the lowest enthalpy evaporator and the water level.
