Abstract

984,212. Heating steam boilers by waste gases. WAAGNER-BIRO A.G. June 5, 1961 [June 4, 1960], No. 20165/61. Heading F4A. In a waste heat boiler utilizing intermittently available hot gases from a blast furnace or chemical process the steam produced is led to an accumulator from which steam at constant but lower pressure is continuously withdrawn. As shown, the boiler 1 has an up-pass containing radiant evaporating sections 3, 4 which discharge into a drum 5 and a down-pass containing superheaters 13, 14, a convection evaporator 9 and an economizer 11. Feedwater is supplied to the drum through the economizer 11 by a pump 10 whilst a circulating pump 6 drawing water from the drum forces the water through the evaporators. Wet steam discharges from the drum through a flow-over valve 17 to an accumulator 12 whence steam controlled at constant pressure by a valve 18 passes to and through the superheaters to the point of use. Auxiliary burners 16 supply heat when the waste heat is not available. Superheat temperature is controlled by interstage water injection at 15. In a modification the up-pass is divided into two passes one containing the evaporators and the other the superheaters, steam temperature then being controlled by a proportioning damper.
