Abstract

301,622. Bland, J. L. Nov. 3, 1927. Stopping tubular members. - In a steamgenerator furnace, of the kind having a grate formed of tubular members or bars 9 connected to transverse headers 2, 3 which communicate through conduits 10, 11 respectively, with the water space of the boiler, the headers 2, 3 are fitted with means for sealing any grate-bar 9 which becomes defective. The front header 2 is provided with plugs 16 carried by rods 17 which are slidably mounted in stuffing-boxes 18 in the wall of the header. The header 3 is fitted with means which automatically seals the rear end of any tube 9 whose front end has been stopped by a plug 16, these means comprising a series of balls 13 guided in cages 14 mounted on the ends of the tubes 9.
