Abstract
661,469. Electric heating elements for furnaces. TRIGGS, W. W. (Aktiebolaget Kanthal). Feb. 17, 1949. No. 4350/49. Class 39(iii). Ceramic supporting members to be placed in vertical rows along the vertical walls of an electric furnace are provided with horizontal grooves 11, Fig. 1, adapted to receive electric heating elements, each ceramic member having interengaging parts 12, 13 and 14, 15 at its upper and lower edges by means of which a plurality of these supporting members can be coupled one to the other to form a continuous vertical wall assembly which can be lifted as a single unit out of and into the furnace. One of the current supply conductors to each removable wall assembly is received in a vertical recess at the rear of the ceramic members and these vertical conductors may then serve as the lifting means. Fig. 3 shows a ceramic member which does not carry heating elements but which is used to extend the assembly through the furnace roof. The upper end member of each wall assembly has a head 17, Fig. 5. grooved and bored to receive the supply conductors.
