[Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] A furnace wall comprises metal frame work consisting of vertical columns 21, Fig. 1, to which are secured vertically spaced angle bars 22 carrying metal tile supports 24, Figs. 1 and 8, comprising a flat portion 25 with lugs 26, 27 engaging the angle bars and arms 29 which embrace ribs 34, 36, Fig. 6, on tiles 32 and support the tiles so as to leave a space between their adjacent ends. The sides of the tiles 32 are provided with grooves 39 which engage with projections 38 on tiles 37, Fig. 7, in such a manner that clearance is provided between the tiles. The tiles 37 are provided with projections 41 and recesses 42 by which upper and lower tiles engage while leaving room for expansion. The tiles 37 may be divided horizontally into three similar portions with projections at the ends to engage the grooves 39 and projections and recesses on their upper and lower edges for interengagement. Fig. 13 shows a modified form of tile 51 for engaging with the metal supports 24. It has side projections 52 with which engage the recesses 53 of tiles 54, Fig. 12. A further form of supporting tile 151 is shown in Fig. 15. It has projections 152 at the sides for engaging with recesses 153 on the three tiles 154, 254, 354, Fig. 14. Insulation 43 is placed on the outside of the tiles.
