Class 39(3) Carrying hooks 3 are fitted into chambers horizontally recessed into the furnace bricks 1, each hook 3 having a bore 11 containing a vertically sliding pin 4 which engages a vertical hollow 5 at the bottom of the chamber. To remove the hook 3, the pin 4 is raised by introducing an instrument 6 along a groove leading to the hollow 5. Each brick 1 has two chambers so that a standard brick can be used to construct successive tiers of the furnace wall.
