Abstract
658,990. Drying drums. SMIDTH & CO. AKTIESELSKAB, F. L. May 20, 1948, No. 13724. Convention date, June 6, 1947. [Class 34(ii)] [Also in Group II] In a method of treating material in a rotary drum air is caused to flow through the drum at a low velocity and is discharged through an inner pasage in an end trunnion, and powdered material is discharged through an annular passage surrounding the inner passage, the air being substantially entirely prevented from passing through the annular passage by means' of one or more conveying devices so constructed as to effect sealing of the annular passage by the outgoing material. An end trunnion 4 of a rotary ball mill drum 1 is divided by a concentric cylindrical partiton 12 into an inner air discharge passage 18 and a surrounding annular discharge passage for the treated material in which is provided a screw conveyer 14. Treated material passing from the drum 1 through a grid 9 at the end thereof is fed by blades 11 carried by the grid 9 to the conveyer 14. An extension 6 of the trunnion 4 is formed with slotted openings 15 each of which in its lowest position serves as a discharge opening for the material and in its top position allows air to pass through to the suction side of a fan.
