Abstract

727,137. Centrifugal separators. CHARD, S. P. (Goodwin, N.). Sept. 20, 1951, No. 22088/51. Class 23. Apparatus for separating or classifying particles contained in a liquid comprises a housing 11 and an impeller 43 within the housing and delivering material to be treated through a peripheral passage 65 to an unrestricted separating zone below the impeller. The material to be treated supplied by a pipe 19 passes through a chamber 26 and holes 29 to the interior of the housing. The impeller consists of a vaned disc 44 mounted on a tubular shaft 30 forming the outlet for the light particles from the separating zone. The light particles pass through radial passages 32 in the shaft to a chamber 27 having a discharge pipe 20. The heavy particles are discharged through an outlet 14a. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the vanes extend beyond the periphery of the disc.
