Abstract
661,050. Centrifugal classifiers. MAATSCHAPPIJ VOOR KOLENBEWERKING STAMICARBON N. V. March 15, 1949 [March 16, 1948], No. 7055/49. Class 23 A mixture is classified in a cyclone chamber 3 having a tangential inlet 6, at the greatest radius of the chamber, and a number of outlets 7, 8, spaced axially in one or both direction from the inlet 6 but which lie at decreasing radii so that grains of different sizes pass through the various outlets. The speed of rotation increases considerably towards the axis of the chamber. The material is preferably fed in with a liquid medium which leaves axially with the finest particles through an outlet or outlets 5. The casing may be arranged in cylinders 1, 2, as shown, or gradually taper towards the end or ends. The material may be introduced axially into the casing, and given a tangential twist by means of guide vanes. One or more of the parts may be made adjustable in size to vary the quantities discharged by means of adjustable diaphragms or pneumatic rings.
