Abstract
681,043. Centrifugal-machines. MARK, K. VAN DER, and DUINTJER WILKENS MEIHUIZEN & CO. N.V. June 12, 1950, No. 14637/50. Class 23 In a centrifugal separator particularly for separating potato fibres from a potato flour suspension and comprising a rotor, chambers 4 on the rotor, radial screens 5 forming the leading faces of the chambers, pipes 8 discharging from the chambers, and a casing 7 surrounding the rotor, a mixture of solids and fluid is continuously supplied to the centre 3 of the rotor, solids are collected in the casing after passing over the screens, and fluid passing through the screens is discharged from the chambers by the pipes. The casing 7 is volute shaped with an outlet for the solids, and the fluid from the pipes is collected in a stationary trough 9. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), fluid and fine particles passing through the screens are discharged from the pipes into a gutter fixed to the rotor. The fine particles and fluid separate in the gutter, and the fluid being removed inwardly by a suction pipe and the particles discharging through outlets to a stationary trough. A number of screens having different mesh may be provided for each chamber, or the chambers may be subdivided radially. Wash water may be supplied to the solids at some distance from the axis in which case the damp separated solids may be led to further separators arranged so that all separators rotate on a common shaft. A grater may be fixed to the casing and the grated material may be led to a further separator
