Abstract
1,064,346. Classifying solids. LES ATELIERS REUNIS BROYEURS FORPLEX and P. R. HIPPERT. May 20, 1965 [May 22, 1964], No. 21497/65. Heading B2H and B2P. Material to be classified is introduced in suspension in air through a tangential inlet 2 into the casing 1 of a classifier and is braked and de-agglomerated as it passes radially inwardly through a crown-like device 24 which is constituted by vanes 27 mounted between annular members 25, 26 and which surrounds a rotor 3, the material being then subjected to the combined action of centrifugal force exerted by the rotor and of centripetal force due to suction created by a fan connected to a pipe 7 which has its inlet opening adjacent the centre of the rotor for collecting the relatively fine particles which pass through the rotor due to the pull exerted on them by the fan suction being greater. The relatively coarse particles, which are thrown out of the rotor due to the action of centrifugal force on them being greater, pass via a gap 28 defined by the lower annular member 25 of the crown-like device and a stationary diaphragm 15 arranged under the rotor and enter an annular discharge chamber 16 which communicates with a hopper 20 fitted with a rotary discharge valve 22. Classification is improved by supplementary air introduced via a pipe 18 into the chamber 16 and flowing, as indicated by the arrows f, through the gap 28 in counter-current to the flow of relatively coarse particles. The annular members 25, 26 of the crown-like device 24 may be in the form of rings or, as shown in Fig. 1, of cheek plates. The device 24 may be replaced by one having vanes of different width and profile, Figs. 3-5 (not shown) to suit requirements. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), a ring (32) is secured to the underside of the bottom disc 5 of the rotor to project from the rotor. The outer diameter of the ring (32) is chosen according to the distance it is desired to offset the position of the gap 28 radially outwardly, the width of the crown-like device 24 being reduced accordingly. The classifier may be used in conjunction with a crusher for the material, the coarse particles being returned there to be further reduced in size.
