Abstract

497,966. Centrifugal separators. AHLMANN, N. Ju]y 1, 1937, No. 18374. [Classes 23 and 117] Powdered materials are separated from each other while travelling in an helical path along the inner surface of a container by a number of jets of air which carry the fine particles towards the axis while the heavy particles are held on the wall by centrifugal force. A conical part 9 is arranged below the cylindrical part 2 which is surrounded by a chamber 6 to which air under pressure is supplied through the connection 14. A disc 3 on the shaft 15 carries vanes 4, 5, the latter being extended by perforated vanes 19. The powdered material is supplied through the inlet 1 and its passage is assisted by a screw. It drops to the rotating disc 3 from which it is thrown to the wall and it travels downwards in an helical path assisted by the vanes 5. Air from the chamber 6 blows in through inclined slots 7 and carries the fine particles to the central outlet 10 which is connected to a cyclone separator 12. The fan 13 withdraws clean air from this separator and passes it to the inlet 14. The heavy particles drop from the container 2' to the discharge valve 11. In a modification the cyclone separator is combined with the main separator and mixture enters at the bottom instead of the top. Specification 457,541, [Group XIII], is referred to.
