Abstract

658,947. Rotary compressors and pumps. WAYMAN, C. P. Oct. 25, 1949, No. 27399. [Class 110(ii)] [Also in Group XIII] The sliding vanes 33 are forced outwards by oil under pressure of the delivery fluid. The latter acts on a blade 39, pivoted on a fulcrum 74, to press a sealing abutment 38 against the rotor 23 placed between inlet and outlet ports 18, 19. Delivery of compressed gas is made into a chamber 16 where oil is separated out by filter baffles 41, clean gas being exhausted through a pipe 42. The oil is returned to the vane slots by way of a pipe 49, valve 53 and ducts 34, 36 under delivery pressure, oil leaking from the slots lubricating the chamber bore and acting as a seal. To prevent flooding of the working chamber when the rotor stops, and a partial vacuum caused by suction ceases to act on a piston 71, a rod 72, moves upwards under pressure of a spring 73, and, through a pivoted lever 59 a rod 58 drops and allows the valve 53 to seat and shut off the oil supply. The piston 71 moves in a cylinder 63 provided with upper and lower ports 64, 65 controlled by the piston. Gas for the working chamber 11 follows the arrows shown in Fig. 3 and passes through ports 64, 65, cylinder 61 and inlet 18. As soon as the rotor stops the pressure on the piston 71 is balanced and the spring 73 forces it upwards causing the valve 53 to re-seat. Cooling water flows through .a jacket 13, provided with pipes 14, 15. A plate 31. closes off the filtering, chamber 16 from an oil chamber 35. The rotor is keyed to a shaft 28.
