Abstract

656,037. Stuffing-box substitutes. DOWTY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and SNELL, M. S. Dec. 22, 1948, No. 33070. [Class 122(v)] [Also in Groups XXIX and XXXIV] Fluid-pressure sealing means for a circularsection rocker arm 11 passing through a partition 14 to actuate a hydraulic valve (see Group XXIX), comprises a resilient sleeve 17 fitting over the arm and over a boss 18 which provides an annular knife-edge bearing 15 for the arm. The arm is located longitudinally to resist high fluid pressure to the left of the partition by a pair of straight knife-edges 24 integral with a plate 22 secured to the arm and engaging a rim 25 of a plug 13 on a line intersecting the axis of the annular knife-edge.
