Abstract

859,457. Valves. WORCESTER VALVE CO. Inc. March 19, 1959 [April 23, 1958], No. 9542/59. Class 135. In a rotary, spherical plug valve in which the plug 12 coacts with sealing rings 15 of a hard vulcanized rubber composition or a plastic material, the housing 10 is completed by end fittings 17 for making pipe connections and a plate 20 is interposed between the housing and one end fitting so that the latter may be removed laterally without disturbing the corresponding sealing ring 15 and interfering with the functioning of the valve. The joints between the housing, the plate 20, and the end fittings are sealed by O-rings 24. The plate 20 is secured to the housing by screws 44 which also pass through the opposite end fitting. The end fitting adjacent the plate 20 is secured thereto by screws 48 passing through lugs 16. The plug has a transverse slot 28 loosely engaged by a lug 29 on an actuating spindle 30 so that the plug can be turned but is free for limited movement towards the sealing ring 15 on the downstream side under pressure of the controlled fluid.
