718,329. Manually-actuated valves. THYSSENSCHE GAS-UND WASSERWERKE GES., and VEREINIGTE ARMATUREN-GES. March 21, 1951 [April 20, 1950], No. 22073/52. Divided out of 718,272. Class 135 In a sliding gate valve for fluid pipe lines having resilient pressure rings urging the gate member and its seatings into contact with each other, the contacting surfaces of the gate and its seating overlap each other to such an extent that there is no gap through which fluid may pass from the valve flow passage into the interior of the valve casing. As shown in Fig. 1, a valve casing mounts seating plates a which are engageable with plates g carried by a valve gate c operable by a nut d and a screwed spindle b. The plates a and g overlap so that in all positions of the valve they are in contact with each other. Figure-of-eight sealing rings f, Fig. 3, of natural or synthetic rubber compressed between the gate c and its plates g urge the plates g into sealing contact with the plates a. The rings f may, if desired, be vulcanized to the plates g. In a modification sealing rings m, Fig. 4, are disposed between the seating plates a and the valve casing j to urge these plates into engagement with a valve gate i.
