Abstract

856,698. Valves. ASTAG A.G. Dec. 10, 1958 [Dec. 12, 1957], No. 39913/58. Class 135. A rotatable spherical plug valve of the kind having a divided two-part casing consisting of a main portion 1 accommodating the plug 2 and a stub inlet or outlet pipe 21 flanged on to the main portion, and having an adjustable retaining ring 12 for the plug screwed into the main portion of the casing at the joint between the two parts thereof, is characterized in that this ring as well as providing a seating 18 for the plug also carries a sealing ring 19 which contacts the plug surface, and an additional sealing ring 27 is compressed between the two parts of the casing so as to bear against the retaining ring and prevent rotation thereof. The ring 12 may be of metal or a synthetic plastic material, e.g. one of the polyamides, or it may be a composite member consisting of a body part 16 of metal with a plastic material part 17 forming the seating and inserted in the body part. A spigot 25 on the stub pipe 21 retains the sealing ring 19 in its groove.
