Abstract

1,217,605. Valves; pipe couplings. INTERCONSULT A.B. 17 June, 1968 [19 June, 1967], No. 28746/68. Headings F2G and F2V. The housing of a butterfly valve closure member 2, is formed from a relatively short rigid ring 6, which has diametrically opposed bores 7, and a relatively long tubular resilient lining 1 which is disposed within the ring and whose ends are adapted to be threaded over associated pipe ends 16 and secured thereto by tensioning bands 17. In addition to forming the lining with an outer diameter which is somewhat greater than the inner diameter of the ring so that the latter causes stressing of the lining and so retains it, further retaining means may be provided, these being in the form of two annular grooves or ribs formed on the ring inner periphery and adjacent its ends. Rotation of the valve member is effected by means of upper and lower pivots, 3 and 4 respectively, both of which extend with a sealing fit through the lining. The lower pivot has the closure member welded to it and is bevelled at 19 in order to facilitate its insertion by tilting, into the lower bore 7 prior to the upper pivot being bolted to the other side of the closure member.
