Abstract

1,022,012. Valves. D. N. MANTON. Sept. 4, 1964 [Sept. 25, 1963], No. 37682/63. Heading F2V. A rotary spherical plug valve comprises a tubular valve body 10 having diametrically opposed ports 12 and 14, a pair of clamping plates 34 and 36, one at each end of the body 10, and means, i.e. bolts 40, 42, for urging the plates 34 and 36 into engagement with the body 10, the closure member 44 having diametrically opposed ports 46 and 48 which may be brought into or out of register with the ports 12 and 14 and at least one valve stem 52 or 54 extending radially of the member 44 and passing through an aperture in the plate 34 or 36, and sealing means associated with at least one of the ports in the body 10. The sealing means includes an annular ring 26 of rubber or a synthetic polymeric material, a retaining ring 28 and a reinforcing ring 30. A handle 58 actuates the valve and moves between stops 60. Sealing means may be provided at both the ports of the body 10, in which case the body may be formed as a pair of tubular members, one within the other, the outer member being connected to the supply and delivery pipes and the inner member being provided with the seals. Heating fluid may be circulated through the members 52, 44 and 54.
