Abstract
1,032,596. Valves. H. J. SHAFER. Sept. 7, 1964 [Sept. 24, 1963], No. 3664/64. Heading F2V. [Also in Division G3] A valve comprises a resilient sleeve 50 within which is provided a core having three arms which define three flow passages through the sleeve, the sleeve being caused to obturate such passages by passing fluid under pressure to a chamber 56 surrounding the sleeve, the chamber being connected to the high pressure cylinder 88 of a pressure amplifier having its low pressure cylinder 72 connected to the valve inlet via valve 68. The sleeve may be of rubber and may comprise a number of concentric layers vulcanized together, each layer having rows of textile or synthetic reinforcing cords embedded therein and orientated at a longitudinal bias with respect to the axis of the sleeve to provide a pantographing action during closure, thereby obviating inward bulging of the necks 32, 34. The inner periphery of the sleeve may be shorter than the outer periphery of the core. The arms are shaped to conform with the folds in sleeve during closure.
