Abstract

884,529. Valves. BELL'S ASBESTOS & ENGINEERING Ltd. Nov. 20, 1959 [Dec. 17, 1958], No. 40709/58. Class 135. A fluid-control valve comprises a closure member 1 and a valve seat 2, the closure member carrying a resilient 0-ring 12 located in a groove 13 defined by a central portion 6 and a depending flange 10, the lower edges 7, 11 of the central portion and flange being chamfered for simultaneous engagement with chamfered surfaces 4, 5 on the seat. The 0-ring, which may be of rubber or plastics material, is retained in the groove 13 by the frusto-conical formation of the central portion 6. In operation, the 0-ring just contacts the surface 3 of the seat and continued movement of the valve causes the O- ring to be compressed until the surfaces 7, 11 and 4, 5 abut thereby preventing further deformation of the O-ring.
