611,239. Stuffing-box substitutes. STRUCKMAN, E., and WILKINSON, P. S. March 6, 1946, No. 7005. [Class 122 (v)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A gland consists of a hollow casing 8, into which the fluid under pressure passes in its passage through the gland, a carbon bush 5 having a spherical concave recess 4 to form a seating for the enlarged head 2 of a hollow stem 1, and so permit relative rotation between the coacting parts. A spring 6 abuts a ring 9 to press a carbon ring 10 against the head 2. The engaging surfaces of the bush 5 and stem head 2 are of different spherical sizes to permit line contact to allow for eventual wear.
