Abstract
655,706. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. Oct. 1, 1948, No. 25619. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1947. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode-ray tube is provided with a screen 9 between two field electrodes, one of which may be the cathode, the screen extending inwardly from near the wall and having a layer 8 of semi-conductive material on the surface facing the wall and the second field electrode. The semi-conductive layer may be of black nickel oxide, and the screen serves to prevent " back-fire " discharges from the wall to the cathode. The screen may be between the control electrode 6 and the anode 3 and may be connected to the cathode; alternatively, Fig. 1 (not shown), the screen may act as the control electrode. The tube may be a television receiving or pick-up tube.
