Abstract
655,588. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. Sept. 9, 1948, No. 23720. Convention date, Sept. 12, 1947. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode-ray tube, of the kind having an insulating wall 1 surrounding the space between two electrodes, has its cathode 2 secured to a cylindrical insulator 4 which fits inside the wall and which has on its surface adjacent the wall an adhesive conductive layer 7 which is connected either to the cathode or to a leading-out conductor. This layer tends to prevent undesirable discharges between the cathode and the wall, and as a further precaution against discharges a screen 9 connected to the layer 7 may be provided between the control electrode 6 and the first anode 3. The layer 7 is normally earthed and may be connected to the cathode if the cathode is at earth potential. The screen of the tube may be a luminescent screen or a thin metallic plate which is locally heated.
