654,895. Roller clearers; suction endcatchers for textile spinning machines. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and WOOLARD, H. J. Aug. 17, 1948, No. 21737. [Class 120(ii)] A drafting head for a textile spinning frame has an individual underclearer roller for each thread and each underclearer is removably carried on a pivoted mounting and maintained in operative contact with a lower drafting roller by a resilient thrust element. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, an underclearer 16 mounted on a hollow spindle 21 carried in arms 19 is held against a lower front roller 8 by a spring- loaded plunger 25 bearing against a face of a cam 24 fixed on a shaft 17 on which arms 19 are pivoted. The cam 24 is shaped to determine the inoperative position of the underclearer 16, as well as its operative position. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the underclearer 16 is mounted on plates 28 on either side of an apron 30, apertured to receive a suction nozzle 25 for; removing broken threads. Plates 28 and apron 30 are carried by a pair of arms 35 extending through holes in a comb bar 31 and having springs 36 arranged to urge the underclearer 16 against its associated lower drafting roller 8. The rear ends of arms 35 are offset to abut against a part 38 of comb bar 31 when the underclearer is in inoperative position. Specification 652,661 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
