Abstract
654,175. Optical projection systems. GRETENER, E. Dec. 20, 1947, No. 33743. Convention date, April 5, 1946. [Class 97 (i)] An optical system for illuminating an object with a homogeneous distribution of light comprises a light source 11 with an oblong light emitting surface and a concave mirror 13 which directs the light on to a lenticular screen system consisting of lenticular screens 25, 26. These screens are arranged so that each lens of screen 25 forms an image of the source 11 at or near the corresponding lens of screen 26 and so that each lens of screen 26 forms an image of the corresponding lens of screen 25 at the object to be illuminated. In addition, the contours of the lenses of screen 25 are similar to the contours of the object and the contours of the lenses of screen 26 approximately coincide with the contours of the images of the source 11 formed by the lenses of screen 25. The lenses of the screens 25, 26 may be eccentric or prismatic. In a modification, the screen 26 is replaced by two lenticular screens ; in this case, the screen nearer the screen 25 is formed of positive lenses and the other screen is formed of negative lenses and is movable axially to vary the size of the illuminated area of the object.
