Abstract
1,109,172. Direction finding. E . L. DELMAR-MORGAN and H.E. BROOKS. May 18, 1965 [Feb.19, 1964], No.6889/64. Heading G1F. Telescopic direction finding apparatus comprises means for projecting an image at infinity of the appropriate part of an illuminated compass card 18 into the objective of the telescope 11 used for viewing distant objects. The telescope 11 is preferably one part of a binocular telescope viewing system, the distant objects being viewed through a transparent reflector 15. Light entering through this reflector 15 illuminates the compass card 18, and by means of a lens 14 and the reflector 15, an image of part of the card is projected on to the focal plane of the telescope. In a modified embodiment an additional reflector is used and the compass card is provided with a depending skirt carrying the markings. The skirt may be translucent and illuminated from within by a small lamp. The reflector 15 may have varying partially reflecting, partially transmitting characteristics or a set of different interchangeable reflectors may be provided.
