Abstract

1,187,581. Optical direction finding. J. R. NARBAITS-JAUREGUY. 10 Jan., 1964 [30 Jan., 1963], No. 1312/64. Heading H4D. A T.V. camera comprises a graduated scale having an optical system, independent of the optics proper of the camera, the arrangement being such that a virtual image of the scale is produced superimposed on the object of observation, the said image being itself observed by the optics proper of the camera simultaneously with the object of observation. The arrangement allows angular measurement of the points of the object of observation with reference to the scale. As shown, the T.V. camera 1 has a primary optical system designated by a lens 2 forming an image 10 of the observed object represented by a house 8. An optical image 11 of a scale 6 is superimposed on the image 10 by a system comprising a light source 4, reflector 5, lens 7 and two-way mirror 3. Lens 7 gives a real image of the scale 6 which is converted into a vertical image 9 by the mirror 3, this image being arranged to be in the plane of the house 8 by adjustment of the relative positions of the scale 6 and lens 7. The scale 6 may comprise a perforated opaque plate and be turned about a vertical axis ZZ.
