Abstract
862,734. Microscopes; prisms. ZE1SS-STIFTUNG, C. [trading as ZEISS, C. [Firm of]]. May 25, 1959 [May 24, 1958], No. 17666/59. Addition to 802,753. Class 97(1) An arrangement for modifying the light path in a microscope comprises a prism having areas of different reflectivity, this prism being slidable so as to selectively position the different areas in the light path and also being rotatable into at least two different positions. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the arrangement comprises a housing I including concentric tubes 17 and 18 of which tube 17 carries a prism cube 12, 13 and is slidable within the tube 18 while tube 18 is rotatable. As shown in Fig. 2a, the hypotenuse face of the prism cube has a transmitting area a, two partially reflecting areas band c and a totally reflecting area d so that by sliding the tube 17 any one of these areas may be positioned in the light path from a microscope objective 7, 8 or 9 whereby an image of the microscope specimen may be projected into the eyepiece o or into this eyepiece and into a camera Ph. By rotating the tube 18 through 90 degrees, the light may alternatively be directed though a projection eyepiece Pr. The light entering the prism cube is illuminated by a negative lens 10 and positive lens systems 14, 15, 16 are provided to ensure that the final images are formed in equivalent planes. In a further form, the negative lens 10 is replaced by a photographic objective and the positive lens system omitted.
