Abstract
719,700. Optical apparatus. KODAK, Ltd. Aug. 18, 1952 [May 18, 1951], No. 11668/51. Class 97(1) [Also in Group XL(b)] To determine the position of the focal plane of a lens light from an extended source is passed through a test object composed of opaque and transparent portions located approximately at the said plane, passes through the lens and is reflected back therethrough by an axially aligned prismatic member, to form an image of the target, the lens and target being relatively adjusted until the amount of light passing back through the target is a maximum in which position the target is in the focal plane. As shown light from a source 1 passes a lens 3 and illuminates the target 4 whence it passes to the lens 5 under test and is reflected back by a tetrahedral prismatic reflector 6. Light passing back through the target is reflected by a semi transparent mirror 2 for visual observation or measurement by photocell 7. The target 4 may be oscillated axially of the lens 5 the resulting varying current being fed through suitable phase selecting circuits to give an indication of the distance between the mean position of the target and the focal plane of the lens. The method may be used to test the location of an objective in a photographic camera.
