Abstract
514,477. Optical-projection apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., BOWEN, A., and WELCH, D. F. April 6, 1938, Nos. 10539 and 14334. [Class 97 (i)] Light producing on the screen, around a multi-coloured projected image, a border of a colour matching and changing with that of the image is obtained by selecting part of the light beam after it has passed through the normal projection lens system. As shown, a concave lens 15 with a central rectangular aperture is placed in front of the projection lens 13 and throws an unfocused image on a border 14 surrounding the normal image 12. A further, convex, lens with a rectangular aperture may be provided to focus the inner edge of the border on the screen. In a modification, the rays. forming the border may be separated by reflecting surfaces at substantially 45 degrees to the projection axis provided on a centrally apertured refractive block; the exit surface of the block may be embossed to spread the emerging rays.
