Abstract

514,673. Optical-projection apparatus BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., BOWEN, A., and METCALFE, J. March 1, 1938, Nos. 6426 and 14839. [Class 97 (i)] Light of a colour matching, and changing with, that of a projected kinematograph image is projected as a border around the image on the screen by a separate optical system producing an out-of-focus image of a frame of the film being projected; one or two light sources may be used. As shown in Fig. 1 (Prov.), an optical system 3 projects an image from a film 1 on to the central portion 2 of a screen, and an optical system 5 projects from a film frame above or below the system 3 an out - of - focus image on the screen border 4. A mask 8 is placed so that. its image is in focus on the screen and blanks off the central portion of the screen; a mask 6 may restrict the projected light to that passing through the central portion of the film frame. As shown in Fig. 1 (Comp.), the system 5 receives light from the light source of system 3 by means of a mirror 9 having a central circular or rectangular portion removed, and by means of a mirror 10. A mask 11 forms an image which is focused on the screen. and blanks off its central part. Specifications 208,798. [Class 97 (i)], 417,873 and 460,508 are referred to.
