Abstract
648,675. Two-part couplings. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. March 13, 1947, No. 7067. Addition to 632,501. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 12, 1946.] [Class 38 (i)] In a plug-and-socket connector 5, 6 of the kind described in the parent Specification, and comprising rigid shells 7, 32 and soft resilient contact-carrying blocks 18, 43 each slid axially into its respective shell, and readily removable thereform, the shells have circumferential lands 10, 39 which interengage with grooves 27, 48 in the blocks to locate each block in its correct position. The plug 5 and socket 6 can be fastened together by a screw-ring 17 and the block 18 is located within the shell 7 by the interengagement of its keyway 30 with a shell key 14, a similar engagement 51, 42 being provided for the block 43 and the shell 32. The key-ways 30, 51 are located in diametral alignment with two holes for the pin and socket contacts, 36, 20. The diameters of the lands 10, 39 are greater than those of the adjacent block ends but less than the diameters of the block mid-portions 25, 37, the abutment surfaces 12 and 50 of the lands being bevelled to permit the blocks to be forced into position after being correctly orientated. The other land abutment surfaces 28, 49 are flat. Key 35 and keyway 13 on the shells ensure the proper coupling of the plug and socket.
