Abstract

722,644. Two-part couplings. FOX, B. Dec. 22, 1952, No. 32464/52. Class 38 (1). A plug-and-socket connector comprises plug and socket members made of identical parts C, D, and having identical bifurcated contacts B which may be secured either to act as socket or plug contacts. In the socket part the contacts B are situated in recesses C<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>2</SP> in the part C and complementary recesses in the part D, the parts C, D being bolted together, a neck 12 of each contact positioning it, and the recesses being shaped so that the contacts are at rightangles to one another. The contacts of the plug can enter the socket by means of recesses of such dimensions that the plug contacts enter and engage the corresponding socket contacts at right-angles. In another embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) one or more core-pieces each having recesses in its top and bottom faces complementary to the recesses in parts C, D are inserted between these parts, which enables more contacts to be provided in the connector members.
