Abstract

645,764. Pipe couplings. TATA IRON & STEEL CO., Ltd. March 31, 1948, No. 9038. [Class 99(i)] Two flanged union fittings 1, 4 mounted on the ends of pipes A, B are held together by interengaging union rings 7; 15, each engaging the flange of its respective fitting, interlocking of the rings 7, 15 being effected by relative rotation thereof whereby wedge-shaped segmental projections on the ring 15 engage like recesses, which are approached by segmental notches on the ring 7. A projection 6 on the fitting 4 enters a recess 3 in the fitting 1 and seals against a washer. As shown, each fitting is provided with a collar behind the flange. Each projection has a tapered face on one side whilst the front face is plain, Figs. 4 and 4A (not shown).
