Abstract

Each end portion 5 of a pipe-coupling sleeve can be turned in to adopt the broken-line position and trap a sealing ring 7, the reduced thickness of material caused by a groove 6 acting as a hinge. The body of each sealing member corresponds in section to the recess formed by turning in the end portion and is held secure without the use of a separate locking rings. The sealing head may extend radially only from the body, radially and axially forming a nozzle-like lip, or may (as shown) have a circular section 9 joined by a neck 10 to the body. The sleeve shown has integral projections 3 to locate the plain-ended pipes, which may be of clay, pitch-fibre, asbestos cement or plastics.
