Abstract

633,654. Pipe joints. BRAITHWAITE & CO. ENGINEERS, Ltd., CLEMMITT, T. L., .and TWEED, R. J. C. June 27, 1947, No. 17007. [Class 99(i)] A swivelling pipe-joint comprises a ring 6 engaging behind a flange 3 formed or mounted on a pipe 1, an end face 14 of the ring forming a continuation of a face 4 on the. flange and both faces seating against a washer 9, and a ring 12 being provided bridging a gap 15 between the faces. As shown, the ring 12 leaves part of the washer free so as to be subject to the pressure of fluid passing through the pipe. The face 4 is inclined at an angle of 60 degrees and an outer face 5 is inclined at an angle of 45 degrees and forms a secondary seal with a corresponding surface on the ring 6. When used for coupling two pipes, a distance piece 8 is provided between the washers 9.
