Abstract
644,292. Knitting-machines. DEHN, S. G. (Vanity Fair Mills, Inc.). July 12, 1946, No. 20938. [Class 74 (ii)] The hooks of the needles 24 of a flat warp knitting-machine move in a closed figure eight path, Fig. 6, of which one loop passes into the spaces between stationary sinkers 49 and the other loop passes between and above the thread guide eyes, the thread T<SP>1</SP>, T<SP>2</SP> extending from the guides being passed by the needles on their up strokes and hooked by them on their down strokes, and means being provided to close the hooks as their points enter between the sinkers on these down strokes. Shafts 20 supporting the needle bar 22 are reciprocated by eccentrics 34, on a shaft 17, through transverse slots in a shaft 18 which is simultaneously rocked, through one or other of the linkworks shown in Figs. 4 and 7 by eccentrics 39 or 129 driven at twice the speed of eccentrics 34 and, in the arrangement of Fig. 7, by eccentrics 126 on shaft 17. Hook closing tongues 33, hinged to the needles, are supported on a bar 26, carried by rods 37 which are reciprocated by fixed cams 32. The threads T<SP>2</SP>, T<SP>1</SP> pass from the beams 77, 80, round interconnected let-off rollers 90, 93, driven through worm and wormwheel gearing and a shaft 55 from shaft 17; these set-off rollers are borne on bell-cranks 88, 89 which are rocked by cams 112, 113 on shaft 55 to take up and let off thread as required by the needles. Resilient plates 75, 76 replace the usual spring-loaded thread tensioning rods. The thread guides 124, 125 are rocked along the line of the needles by pattern wheels 110, Fig. 2 (not shown), and 109, driven from shaft 55, but are not moved from front to back of the needles ; the guides may, however, be swung to different angular positions when adjustments or replacements become necessary, or the front set may be swung out of the way to give access to the other set. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 eccentrics on shaft 55 reciprocate shaft 51, causing sinker nibs 54 to be reciprocated over the sinkers 49. Specification 601,020 is referred to.
