[Class 98 (i)] A roll-film reflex camera has a latch which holds the mirror in its inoperative position after an exposure until released by movement of the film winding mechanism. The construction of the camera is described in Specification 637,859. As shown, Fig. 7, the mirror 43 is fast with a shaft 42 journalled in the walls 40 of the inner body member 20. An arm. 44, Fig. 5, on the end of the shaft 43 protruding through the wall 40 has a pivoted plate 46, further from the wall 40 than the nose 45 of the arm 44. When the mirror is swung upwardly just before an exposure, the nose 45, which is bevelled, lifts and passes under a bolt 38 sliding in holes 39. A lever 31 pivoted at 32 above the take-up spool chamber 5 engages a slot 37 in the bolt 38, which is thus urged by a spring 35 towards the wall 40, and falls behind the nose 45 as seen in Fig. 5, so that the mirror cannot be lowered until the bolt is disengaged. When the film winding knob is operated, one of a number of studs 30, on the underside thereof bears against a lug 34 on the lever 31 to move it and retract the bolt 38 so that the plate 46 is moved by a spring 47 up to the nose 45, preventing the bolt from returning and enabling the mirror to be lowered. The end 52 of the lever 31 projects through a slot in the camera body to enable the bolt to be disengaged without winding the film, if desired.
