Abstract

563,306. Roll-film cameras. KODAK, Ltd., and NAGEL, H. Feb. 3, 1943, No. 1796. [Classes 97 (i) and 98 (i)] Means for locking the film-feeding mechanism of a roll-film or kinematograph camera when the film is exhausted comprises a feeler which is held in an operative position by a latch device when a film spool is to be inserted and is mounted on a rock-shaft which is moved axially by the spool during insertion to release the latch, whereupon the feeler is moved by a spring into contact with the periphery of the film roll. At the same time a finger forming part of the latch moves into contact with a member normally preventing operation of the film feed latch, this member being finally moved by the finger, when the film is exhausted, to a position in which it permits operation of the film-feed latch. The Figures show a camera for photographing X-ray screen images, in which the film is fed after each exposure by a down-stroke of a lever 9, as described in the abridgment of Specification 563,304. A film footage indicator comprises a feeler 47 carried by an axially-movable rock-shaft 48 and maintained in contact with the outer turn of the film on the supply roll R by the action of a spring 54, a pointer 69 on the shaft indicating through a window the amount of film. When a new spool is to be inserted, the rock-shaft is turned by a knob 49 so that the feeler 47 clears the spool flange and is maintained in this position by pushing it inwardly until a finger 51 on the shaft engages under a fixed pin 52. When the new spool is inserted, the flange pushes the rod 48 outwardly, releasing the latch 51, 52 so that the feeler 47 engages the film. As the film is wound off the finger 51 rises, and by engaging a pin 67 on a pivoted arm 63 gradually raises this arm until, when the film is substantially exhausted, an abutment 66 is moved clear of a latching lever 60 which is then moved by a spring 62 so that a hooked end 55 engages a pin 56 on the film-feed lever 9 and prevents its further actuation. When the rock-shaft is rotated by the knob 49 for inserting a new spool, as above described, a pin 57 on an arm extending from the shaft moves down a cam surface 59 on the lever 60 and restores it to the non-latching position. Specifications 549,194 and 563,304 are referred to.
