Abstract

523,183. Photographic roll film cameras. NAGEL, H., and KODAK, Ltd. Jan. 10, 1939, No. 802. [Class 98 (i)] A double-exposure preventing device on a roll-film camera is operated by a pivoted lever which, upon actuation of the shutter release, is moved bodily in its own plane by a cam surface on the release member to disengage one end from a shoulder on a cam disc frictionally driven from the film-winding mechanism, the lever then turning to operate the doubleexposure preventing device; the subsequent operation of the film winding device rotates the cam disc which causes the reverse movements of the lever to render the double-exposure device inoperative. In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3, a shutter 14 carried by a bell-crank lever 15 is moved to obscure the lens 12 of a direct-vision finder when an exposure has been made, for which purpose a slot in one arm of the lever is engaged by a pin 19 carried by a lever 20 pivoted to one arm of a bell-crank lever 23 and having a ncse 25 engaged by a shoulder on a cam 7 which is rotated through a friction clutch from the film-winding knob. The bell-crank lever 23 has an extension 34 lying in an inclined cam slot in the vertically-movable release button 36. In the positions of the parts shown in full lines an exposure may be made, the view-finder being unobscured. On pressing the shutterrelease button 36 the cam slot acting on the extension 34 of the lever 23 moves this lever to the broken line position, thus carrying the lever 20 to a position in which the nose 25 is released from the shoulder of the cam 7, the lever being thereupon moved anti-clockwise about its pivot by a spring 28. In this position the pin 19 holds the bell-crank lever 15 so that the shutter 12 obscures the view-finder. On winding the film, the cam 7 is rotated until the shoulder 26 is again engaged by the nose 25 of the lever 20, which is urged towards the cam by the spring 28, the parts being then in position for another exposure. In place of the shutter 14 an indicator mounted on any suitable part of the camera may be similarly operated. In the form shown in Fig. 5, on pressing the release button 39 an inclined surface on it engages an arm 41 and moves the lever to the right so disengaging it from a depression 60 in the cam disc, whereupon the lever is turned anti-clockwise by a spring 47. At the same time a lug 59 on the lever releases a pivoted latch 52 which is moved by a spring 53 and engages a slot in the side of the button 39, so latching it against further actuation until rotation of the frictionally-driven cam disc 7 by the film-winding device restores the parts to their original position.
