[Class 98 (i)] Means for ensuring alternate operation of the shutter-release and the film wind of a rollfilm camera comprise a lever 20 pivotally and slidably mounted on the camera body and having a pawl 22 adapted to pass through a slot 37 in an annular member 36 loosely mounted on the film winding spindle 17 and to engage a ratchet 23 to lock the spindle when the film is fully wound, as in Fig. 2. Operation of the shutter release 39 turns the lever about its pivot 18 and so releases the pawl 22 from the ratchet and the slot 37, whereupon means such as a spring 24 causes the lever to slide over the pivot 18 to move the pawl out of registry with the slot and to cause a lug 42 on the lever to engage the release to prevent a second operation, as shown in Fig. 3. On winding the film, the annular member 36 is rotated by a gear 30 driven from a film-measuring wheel until the lug 22 falls into the slot 37. A slight further rotation causes the edge of the slot to push the lever 20 back to the position shown in Fig. 2, the film wind being now locked and the shutter release 39 free. The rocking movement of the lever 20 is produced by the engagement of the chamfered lower edge of a collar 40 on the release button with an inclined lug 44 on the lever.
