Abstract

125,615. Thornton-Pickard Manufacturing Co., Pickard, A. G., and Slinger, F. Sept. 12, 1916. Cameras, roll - film with connected action between shutter and changing-mechanism, - In a roll-film camera having mechanism for simultaneously setting a roller-blind shutter and drawing forward the film after exposure by one operation of a winding-lever, a lever is provided to prevent a backward movement of the winding-lever beyond the normal position at any time, and also forward movement of the winding-lever while the shutter is set; a drum which indicates the number of exposures made may also be provided. The shutter is of known self-capping type and has blinds carried by winding-rollers a<1>, a<2> and spring- controlled rollers a<3>, a<4>, the rollers a<1>, a<2> having pinions b<1>, b<2> engaged respectively by upper and lower co-axial pinions B, B<1>, connected by means of a pin e on the pinion B<1> and a slot b<3> in the pinion B. The shutter is set by means of the winding-lever D which is secured to a mutilated toothed wheel d<1> which operates the pinion B through pinions d<2>, d<3>. The gearing is such that the pinion B turns until the pin c engages the rear end of the slot b<3>, and both pinions B, B<1> then turn until a notch b in a disk secured to the pinion B<1> is engaged by a spring-controlled pawl a. The film-winding spool is secured coaxially to the spindle c, which is co-axial with the wheel d<1>, and is secured to it by a one-way clutch. The winding- lever D has a projection e<3> which engages a projection e<1> on a centrally pivoted lever E to prevent the winding-lever from being turned backwardly from the normal position, in which it is shown. As the winding-lever is turned to set the shutter and wind the film, the pin e comes into engagement with the lever E and turns it against the pull of a spring e<4>, so that just before the winding and shutter-setting action is finished, the projection e<3> engages the bevelled edge e<5> of the projection e' and snaps past the projection e' to become held between it and a second projection e<2> on the lever E. The shutter is released by withdrawing the pawl a from the notch b either by means of the bolt F' and lever F, by means of a projection on the lever D, which depresses a catch connected to the lever F, or by other means, and when it is released, the pin e becomes disengaged from the lever E and permits it to resume the position shown, so that a further winding and filmsetting movement of the lever D may be made. A drum G having numerals on its periphery to indicate the number of exposures made may be operated through a wheel g<1> by a wheel g secured to the spindle c. An additional winding-knob enabling the film to be wound without setting the shutter may be provided.
