Abstract

636,498. Rollers. GAS MACHINERY CO. Aug. 14, 1947, No. 22663. Convention date, March 4, 1944. [Class 42 (ii)] [Also in Group XII] A roller for supporting articles in a furnace comprises a metal load-bearing shaft 4 having journal end portions, a concentric tube 13 of refractory material (e.g. silicon carbide), and a heat-insulating cement 12 filling the space between shaft 4 and tube 13. As shown, shaft 4 is ribbed and tube 13 internally fluted to key with the cement, and the ends of tube 13 are closed with plugs 14 of silicon carbide. Shaft 4 is of steel and is hollow to permit the passage of a cooling fluid.
