675,935. Pipe joints. HUET, A. Nov. 16, 1950 [Nov. 16, 1949], No. 28053/50. Class 99 (i) In a stuffing-box type expansion joint the end 6 of the inner pipe is provided with a jacket of heat-insulating material 8 to protect the packing 13. The jacket comprises a sleeve 7, welded to the pipe at 9, and a sliding fit at 10 where it may be slotted to reduce heat conduction. The socket 5 is spaced slightly from the jacket at 11, and may have annular or longitudinal cooling-fins 19. The socket may be cooled by a fluid other than atmospheric air.
