Abstract

555,389. Pipe joints. JOHNSONCORPORATION. Feb. 16, 1942, No. 2055. Convention date, Jan. 16, 1941. [Class 99 (i)] In a joint for connecting rotary pipes 1, 21 to a casing 11, 45 having fluid connections 19, 48, for supplying steam, for example, to the rotary drum of a paper drier, and for removing the condensate therefrom respectively, the pipe 1 is provided with shoulders 3, 5 slidably keyed together at 7 and pressed apart by a spring 14 towards the ends of the casing 11, and the pipe 21 has similar shoulders 24, 32 pressed apart by a spring 39 within the casing 45. The shoulders are formed with spherical surfaces engaging bearing-rings 13, 43. The shoulder 24 is connected to a stuffing-box gland 25 sliding on the pipe 21, and formed with an extension 30 slidably keyed to the pipe 21 and to the shoulder 32.
