Abstract
636,486. Floors; beams. THINET, M., and HOFFNER, G. May 7,1947, No. 12371. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1944. [Class 20 (iv)] In a floor comprising a self-supporting framework of semi-cylindrical pre-cast beams laid side by side with their cavities facing downwards, each, beam has an upper part flattened and shouldered for co-operation with intermediate filler elements, the outer surface, to each side of the flattened part, forming part of a cylinder, while circumferential stiffening ribs are provided along its inner arcuate surface, the ribs being formed in one with a lower tie-piece which connects the lower edges of the beam together at intervals along its length. In the form shown, the floor consists of a number of arch-like re-inforced concrete beams a laid side by side with their lower edges a<SP>1</SP> in contact. Each beam has a flat top surface b, each side of which is rebated to form shoulders c. Ribs g, formed integrally with tie pieces h, are formed at intervals along the length of the beam and at the ends thereof. As shown at the left of Fig. 1, concrete slabs d may be positioned with their edges resting on the shoulders c of adjacent beams, the thickness of the slabs corresponding to the depth of the shoulders, so that a flush floor surface is obtained. Alternatively and as shown at - the right-hand side of Fig. 1, plain or reinforced concrete i may be cast into the spaces between the beams, which may be keyed to the concrete by protruding reinforcements j. The concrete may completely cover the beams (Fig. 3, not shown). To facilitate the attachment of a ceiling, the beams are provided with nailing strips e secured to their lower edges a<SP>1</SP> during casting.
